Michael Lovely

My name is Michael A. Lovely and I’m running to be your State Representative for the 16th District. I am a native of Jasper County and am a proud teacher at Kankakee Valley High School. I’m a member of the Kankakee Valley Teachers Association and a former executive board member. I was the student council advisor for seven years.

In addition to being a teacher, I’m the Executive Director of the Indiana Association of Student Councils. A non-profit, 501(3)c corporation that’s mission is to provide leadership learning K-12. Working with students and teachers from around the state of Indiana continues to be very rewarding.

I grew up in rural Wheatfield and Rensselaer in Jasper County, and graduated from West Central High School in Francesville, Pulaski County. I come from a family deeply rooted in agriculture where I’m the fourth generation to live on the family farm.  I was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Medaryville. After high school, I studied political science and history. I worked in corporate America to gain some experience but knew from an early age that I wanted to work in education. Becoming a teacher and being in the service of others  has been one of the best decisions of my life.

Working in education and serving others takes a majority of my time. When I do have time, I enjoy the outdoors and traveling. I’ve been to 36 countries and counting.On top of all of that, one of my greatest joys is spending time with my family and friends.

I’m running for State Representative because I believe that the people of the 16th house district deserve better representation. Managing a classroom has given me the skills to adapt to all kinds of circumstances. Finding a good balance, finding a  compromise, respect and understanding, giving honest answers, and finding solutions is what I will bring to the table. Experience managing a non-profit and being a leader for students and adults across the state gives me confidence that I am ready to serve the district. I have experience working with many age groups in the community and know that I will bring every voice to the legislature.  I don’t believe that our current representative is fully representing all the constituents of the district. We can do better. We deserve better. I want to represent everyone in this district because we all have a voice and we deserve to be heard. It is time for what matters to all of us to come first. With your support, we will move the district and Indiana forward, together.
